Continuous Insurance Enforcement
Flint is warning all owners or motor vehicles, i.e. cars, bikes and motor homes must be insured, even if they are not being driven. This legislation came into force 22 March 2011.
The DVLA is working with the Motor Insurance Database (MID) to identify all uninsured vehicles. The registered keeper will be sent an Insurance Advisory Letter (IAL) warning that they face a fine unless the vehicle is insured.
If you have a vehicle that is not being driven you must apply for a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) and declare that it’s not in use.
Failure to comply with the IAL could result in:
A fixed penalty notice of £100
Your vehicle being clamped, seized and disposed of
Court prosecution with a maximum fine of £1,000
If you are in any doubt about your motor insurance contact Flint and we will be happy to help you.
