Sam’s Story

Sam joined Flint in September 2015, having graduated from Canterbury Christ Church University with a 2:1 in business studies earlier that year. He has been on a journey through Flint, starting as an office junior and working his way through the business to become an Associate Director in our Motor Fleet Division. Below is Sam’s story:

“When I started at Flint, I knew nothing about insurance so had a lot to learn. I spent my first 6 months in the Personal Lines team adjusting to office life and learning all I could about consumer and commercial insurances as well as quickly embedding myself into the culture of Flint.

I was progressing well with an ever adapting training plan which enabled me to step up into a Personal Lines sales role. I was responsible for new business, renewals and speaking to consumers and commercial clients about their motor insurance. After 2 years in the Personal Lines team, I was given the opportunity to move into our Commercial Motor Division.

Because of my experience in Personal Lines learning motor insurance, I had a springboard going into the Motor Fleet team diving straight into a training plan to learn the finer details of Commercial Fleet cover. I started managing renewals and speaking to new clients as an Account Handler. Over the next two years I progressed even further having opportunities to work with senior members of the team, including directors, on larger and more complex insurance policies. I also had the chance to partner with colleagues throughout the business quoting on clients insurance portfolios – this was from junior, senior and directors of the business.

Since then, my role continued to develop into an Account Executive, Senior Account Executive, Senior Account Manager and am now one of the Associate Directors of the business. This recent new role is a huge achievement for me and I’m grateful for the opportunities my colleagues have presented me, along with their coaching and guidance to help get to me to where I am today.

In my current role I am proud to be responsible for the success of not just of my own team but the wider business. I work alongside people who have been on a similar journey as me and our ability to work together and positively challenge each other is instrumental to our success.

Flint is an empowering business to work for – your ideas, values and individual flair is shared throughout the business and everyone of all expertise and experience has the opportunity to be heard and have their ideas bought to life. I joined Flint as an ambitious young man but Flints constant mentoring, training and encouragement to develop their staff is the biggest reason for my success through the business – although this couldn’t have happened without hard work, a few drinks and some fun along the way!”
